Not Just Another Tool

If you think of SMS as a software program or a book of rules, you're missing out on its full potential to improve safety, drive efficiency, and ensure regulatory compliance.

When implementing an SMS, watch out for these pitfalls:

1. Taking an outside-in or top-down approach instead of incorporating and securing the support of all key stakeholders.

2. Adopting an off-the-shelf program instead of working with experts to design a right-size program tailored to your risks.

3. Developing key components individually instead of integrating them into a holistic program.

4. Allowing your SMS to sit on a shelf instead of deploying its insights to drive continuous improvement.

The Right SMS Provides:

1. Peace of Mind: Know you'll pass your next audit when you can provide your auditors with the book on what you do, how you do it, and how you measure up.

2. A Path Forward: Drive continuous improvement by following your SMS insights on what will improve safety and operational efficiency.

3. Alignment: An SMS is woven into the fabric of an organization. Through its goal setting, planning, performance measurement, it becomes part of the culture and the way people do their jobs.

Industries We Support

Society continues to be less trusting and more demanding that organizations have plans to prevent major accidents. Fortunately, the aviation industry has spent 25 years honing its systems and paved the way with time-tested strategies that can be successfully adapted to other lines of work.

Our systems have been successfully implemented across a diverse range of industries, including private, commercial, and military aviation, onshore and offshore pipelines, oil and gas, and wind energy. This extensive experience enables us to harness the unique strengths of each sector, tailoring our SMS to fit your organization.

Pipeline

Lead the industry with an SMS that helps you manage your pipeline maintenance and replacement schedule with improved quality, reduced costs, and a safety record you can be proud of.

Energy

In an environment of increasing regulation, rapidly changing technology, and heightened scrutiny, your SMS allows your organization to navigate the changes with clarity.

Part 135

The FAA has ruled that all Part 135 commuter and on-demand operations need to have an SMS. Meet the regulation and pass your audits with confidence.

The Process

Achieving SMS excellence is a 4 step process that starts with 1) an audit to understand where you are now so that you can 2) design a right-size systematic, explicit and comprehensive process for managing safety risks and then 3) implement for maximum adoption of the SMS across the organization and 4) harvest the insights to improve safety and efficiency.

Audit

Compare safety and security requirements to your current performance.

Design

Create a system to identify hazards, control risks, and maintain assurance that these are effective.

Implement

Provide training & communication to ensure adoption of the SMS into existing processes and workflow.

Harvest

Monitor leading indicators and use the insights to address emerging weaknesses and vulnerabilities.

Case Studies

Too many organizations have learned the hard way that an SMS is the best preventative tool they could have invested in. Our case studies highlight the ability of an SMS to drive safety improvements and achieve organizational business objectives.

9x INCREASE

IN NEAR MISS REPORTING

An audit revealed that the frontline hesitated to report near misses or incidents based on fear. We worked with leadership and the frontline developing trust in our investigation methodology that multiplied reporting by 9! This drastic improvement in reporting allowed 1,156 corrective actions that significantly lowered all safety metrics.

PASSED AUDIT

Our client applied for a Part 135 certification and needed a road map to build their safety management system.

Our team collected data, conducted interviews and gave our client a thorough road map to pass their first regulatory audit.

70% DECREASE

IN DROPPED OBJECTS

Our client had 127 dropped objects in one year.  After studying the causes of their dropped object events, we made a systematic change to their safety system which lowered their dropped objects incidents by 70% in the first year!

Our success continued the following year with an additional reduction by 60%!
